Lakewood is preparing for downtown growth, with plans calling for up to 2,257 new homes, 7,369 jobs, and 2.85 million square feet of commercial space by 2035.

An environmental review completed in 2018 allows qualifying projects to bypass separate state environmental reviews, though other regulations still apply.

The city also plans to improve walkability with wider sidewalks, bike routes, new streets, and public spaces while encouraging redevelopment of vacant and underused properties.
