The Suburban Times has subdued

After 20 years of posting The Suburban Times, publisher Lakewood resident Ben Sclair had to give it up.

He and his wife recently took a vacation.  But each morning, 7 days a week, he would have to spend an hour sifting through the 20-50 emails he receives every day.

“That's not a vacation”, he said.

Sclair had always seen it as a community bulletin board where someone could stop by and pin their west Pierce County event to the wall.  And in the last year over 1500 people per day saw them.

“20 years after looking at my energy levels and my other business- my other business is my primary focus.” He said he was “ready to not do The Suburban Times anymore as the sole single person working on it.”

Someday soon the 20,000 stories will vanish to diminish to a single post-mortem memorial page.

He hasn't ruled out the notion of resurrecting The Suburban Times someday.  He has no intention to sell it or contract it out.  He plans to keep the domain.  But he admits that the day after his last circulation email he felt a great weight off his shoulders.
