Voter access expands for the November 3 General Election | piercecounty

In preparation for this year’s General Election, the Pierce County Auditor’s Office is adding eight new ballot drop boxes and two new vote centers.

Eight new ballot drop boxes

Voters now have more options to return their ballots conveniently, securely and on time with the addition of eight new ballot drop boxes. The additions bring the county's total to 58 ballot drop box locations.

‌New drop box locations:

  • Benston Hall Community Center – Graham

  • Dieringer Heights Elementary School – Lake Tapps

  • Gig Harbor Sports Fields – Gig Harbor

  • Lakeland Hills Elementary School – Auburn

  • Pierce County Soundview Building – Tacoma

  • South Pierce Fire Station 173 – Roy

  • Sprinker Recreation Center – Parkland/Spanaway

  • STAR Center – Tacoma

Changes have also been made to existing boxes:

  • A larger drop box was installed at Wapato Park to better accommodate high voter turnout.

  • Flexible “no parking” signs were installed at the Hilltop ballot drop box that can be uncovered during elections to allow drive-up access to the box.

  • The drop box at the Lakewood Park & Ride (SR 512) was removed due to low use.

Why use a ballot drop box?

  • Convenient. Open 24/7 the full voting period October 13 through 8 p.m. on November 3, Election Day.

  • Secure. Boxes are built to withstand tampering, have fire suppression systems and are monitored through strict chain-of-custody procedures.

  • Guaranteed on Time. Ballots returned to an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day are guaranteed to be received on time.

Two new vote centers

The Auditor’s Office is opening two additional Vote Centers to accommodate increased demand for services close to Election Day. The additions bring the County’s total to three Vote Center locations where trained election staff provide in-person voter registration services.

‌Trained staff at Vote Centers help people who need to register to vote, update their registration, or request a replacement ballot. Vote Centers also offer Accessible Voting Units for people who need large print, audio ballots, or other forms of assistance.

The new Vote Centers will be open October 31, November 2 and November 3 at these locations:

  • Pierce College Puyallup – Puyallup/South Hill

  • Sprinker Recreation Center – Parkland/Spanaway

Pierce County’s year-round Vote Center is co-located with the Election Center at 2501 S. 35th St., Suite C, in Tacoma.
