Candidate Forum, Position #3, Mark Herr
The Lakewood Lyre provides the opportunity for candidates to address questions that affect Lakewood residents.
The Lyre will include background it believes will affect voters.
Herr is a candidate for Position #3, which will be vacated by Mary Moss.
What local organizations are you a member of?
Community Service Director, Lakewood Rotary Club; Commissioner, Lakewood Planning Commission; Member, Lakewood Chamber of Commerce; Board Member, Bates Technical College Foundation Board; Life Member, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
What is the first item you will push for upon induction?
I will be a driving force to continue on the good planning efforts and work already initiated by the current City Council. My desire is to bring the potential future multi-generational community center to life and bolster efforts to both revitalize the Central Business District as well as focus on developing walkable, enjoyable green spaces throughout the city.
What issue should we address that may still be years down the road?
The issues of tomorrow are continuously developing and the planning process never stops. Our city staff does a phenomenal job of anticipating potential issues while simultaneously balancing the current needs of the city. I believe the city is well-positioned at the moment for potential issues. As we continue to grapple with housing and economic development while also balancing quality of life issues, such as water access and tree canopy coverage, we will make decisions that benefit Lakewood residents in a meaningful way.
Do you plan to seek any other elected offices in the future?
My focus is on winning election to the Lakewood City Council and serving honorably there.

Herr has also run for Washington state legislature.
