Service Club; Lakewood First Lions
Mission: Community service focused on vision, diabetes, hunger, environment, and childhood cancer. Members believe in serving, friendship, and having fun lakewoodca.gov+5e-clubhouse.org+5e-clubhouse.org+5.
1. Lions Love Kids
Support activities like Springbrook Kids Summer Camp, community Easter Egg Hunt, School Math Relay.
Participate in Lakewood Tree Lighting and assist children’s cancer care at Mary Bridge Hospital.
Provide scholarships including partnerships with Lakewood YMCA & University of Washington programs.
Helped install playground equipment at Kiwanis Park lakewoodca.gov+4e-clubhouse.org+4e-clubhouse.org+4.
2. Fighting Hunger
Volunteer at local food banks, harvest produce for Nourish, and support Thanksgiving meals for Springbrook community e-clubhouse.org+1e-clubhouse.org+1.
3. Lions Give Sight
Conduct school hearing screenings (~7,500 done last year) and collect/equip eyeglasses and hearing aids for low income residents and send recycled glasses abroad e-clubhouse.org.
4. Environmental Care
Engage in park clean-ups, street adoption, and local wildlife park restoration including South Sound Wildlife Park and Veterans Memorial e-clubhouse.org+1seattle.gov+1.
5. Diabetes Support
Fund Camp Leo scholarships and promote awareness in under served neighborhoods e-clubhouse.org.
6. Fundraising – Crab Feed & Dance
Annual event in January (e.g. February 25, 2023, saw 200 guests; proceeds support sight/hearing programs) lakewood-chamber.org.
Benefits: Drive local change, build leadership skills, network internationally lionsclubs.org+2e-clubhouse.org+2e-clubhouse.org+2.
Commitments:
$35 one time initiation fee + $100 annual dues (club, district & international) lakewood-chamber.org+4e-clubhouse.org+4lionsclubs.org+4.
Participation in fundraising and community service.
Encouraged to take on leadership/committee roles lakewoodca.gov+4e-clubhouse.org+4seattle.gov+4.
