Service Club; Kiwanis Club Of Clover Park
The Kiwanis Mission – “Kiwanis is dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.”
The Kiwanis Club of Clover Park was [chartered] in 1955. The two largest activities the Kiwanis Club support are senior scholarships for the 4 high schools in Lakewood and Caring for Kids. In 2025 4 $4,000 scholarships were awarded. Outstanding achievements in music, art, and sports at district middle and high school are recognized with Kiwanis Achievement Awards. These activities are core values of the Kiwanis Mission and Motto.
The Kiwanis Club created the Lakewood Community Garden 8 years ago and continues to maintain the garden. Besides 5 raised beds for growing vegetables of local food banks, there are 24 beds for community members to raise vegetables. In past years an average of 1,000 pounds of fresh vegetables has been donated to local food banks.
5 years ago the Kiwanis Club raised $75,000 to replace all the playground equipment at Kiwanis Park. Members of the Kiwanis Club participate in the City of Lakewood Adopt A Street program.
Funds raised by operating the concession stand at Harry Lang Stadium and a golf tournament are donated to local causes. In 2025, the Kiwanis Club has made donations to LASA, Community in Schools, Lakewood Baseball, and Caring for Kids.
In 2024 the Kiwanis Club received the Larry Saunders Community Service Award in recognition of the many years the Kiwanis Club has supported groups and events in Lakewood. The $3,000 monetary amount of the award was presented to Caring for Parks for the renovation of the H Barn at Ft. Steilacoom Park.
The Kiwanis Club of Clover Park [meets] at the RAM restaurant in Lakewood at noon on Tuesdays. Membership is open to those interested in improving the lives of children in Lakewood and participating in community events.
